About
RFID
RFID
(radio
frequency
identification)
is
a
technology
based
on
the
use
of
electromagnetic
or
electrostatic
coupling
in
the
radio
frequency
(RF)
portion
of
the
electromagnetic
spectrum.
RFID
is
used
to
uniquely
identify
(tag)
products,
vehicles,
livestock,
or
person.
We are the agents for the Telsor range of RFID products manufactured by RFID Inc in USA.
RFID Inc are the oldest active RFID company in the world and the pre-eminent source of RFID knowledge. Hansom Transformers have been providing customised RFID solutions from the Telsor range since 1990.
RFID
is
a
quickly
growing
industry
and
RFID
products
are
becoming
an
attractive
and
economical
alternative
to
the
existing
tagging
products
such
as
the
bar
code.
The
advantage
of
RFID
is
that
it
does
not
require
direct
contact
or
line-of-sight
scanning
in
addition
an
RFID
tag
can
function
in
many
environments
where
an
ordinary
bar
tag
could
not
survive.
An
RFID
system
consists
of
three
components:
an
antenna
and
transceiver
(usually
sold
as
one
reader)
and
the
tag.
The
antenna
uses
radio
frequency
waves
to
transmit
a
signal
that
activates
the
tag.
When
activated,
the
tag
transmits
data
back
to
the
antenna.
The
data
is
used
to
notify
a
programmable
logic
controller
that
an
action
should
occur.
The
action
could
be
as
simple
as
raising
an
access
gate,
identify
a
ticket
or
as
complicated
as
interfacing
with
a
database
to
carry
out
a
monetary
transaction
such
as
toll
collection
or
price
retrieval
in
a
supermarket.
Low-frequency
RFID
solutions
(30
KHz
to
500
KHz)
have
short
transmission
ranges,
usually
less
than
six
feet
(1.8m).
High-frequency
RFID
solutions
(850
MHz
to
950
MHz
and
2.4
GHz
to
2.5
GHz)
can
reach
more
than
90
feet
(30
meters).
